FORTHCOMING “Meeting Your Guides” Nights
“Meeting your Guides” nights are held at either the The Scout Hall, Home Avenue (off the Warrenpoint Road) Newry City or at The Mourne Country Hotel - depending on which night of the week. Monday/Tuesdays are in the Scout Hall, while any other night is the Mourne Country Hotel.
These nights are held on a regular basis to:
- Afford the complete beginner the opportunity to try out their first shamanic journey to meet their Spirit Guides.
- Provide experienced practitioners with continuing shamanic practice to new journeys set by me and/or requests for journeys by others.
NOTE: Ciaran will use a Shamanic drum each night so you can journey to meet your Guides - the rhythm of the drum helps to change your brain wave pattern from Beta to Alpha - Theta levels - the state which makes journeying easy.
Time: 7.00pm – 10.00pm
Cost: £5, payable on the night
Q: What is your background in Shamanism?
A: I started my training in 1997 with the Irish Centre for Shamanic Studies and completed all of my advanced training with the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies.
Q: How long have you been teaching Shamanic Courses?
A: Since 2002.
Q: Where do you teach?
A: I’m based in Newry, Co. Down in Northern Ireland and regularly teach Introductory and Advanced Courses in Shamanic Practice at weekend courses in Newry.
On a regular basis I also run a Drumming evening for practitioners to deeper and extend their experience of shamanic practice.
Q: What is Shamanism?
A: Shamanism is essentially a spiritual discipline which allows us to directly connect to the unseen world of Spirit. Through the Core Shamanic Technique, we can make contact with helpers, guides and teachers from the Spirit World and get information, help, advice and healing for ourselves and others. Typically we go there to ask for help with challenging problems in our lives, including the Shadow aspects of our lives that affect us.
Shamanic journeying expands your consciousness and goes far beyond developing our intellectual understanding of the spiritual – you actually experience it. This facility allows us to experience inner dimensions that lie beyond our five senses.
It enables our awareness to function at a different level of perception from our ordinary every day existence and allows our consciousness to experience other non-ordinary realities.
It is not unusual for those practising shamanism to have life-changing experiences. It often connects people to their soul purpose and empowers them in their everyday lives to live their true potential.
Q: Which primary shamanic technique do you teach?
A: The Core Shamanic Technique developed by Michael Harner of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies in the USA, which is a synthesis of various shamanic techniques he encountered with indigenous people around the world. He noticed that they all used similar techniques to access the world of Spirit, and from this he developed a series of principles and practices on Shamanism that he has called the Core Shamanic technique.
Q: Is the Core Shamanic Technique widely used?
A: It is the near-universal method used by Shamanic practitioners throughout the western world. These principles and practices of Shamanism encompassed in the Core Shamanic Technique are not bound to any specific cultural group or perspective.
Q: How does this technique work?
A: In simple terms, the effect of a constant regular background drum-beat helps to change the frequency of our brain wave patterns (like changing channels on a radio) that allows us to exercise a normal function of the brain that we are not normally used to using.
To give you a sense of this – think of those times in the early morning when you wake up, but remain mid-way between sleep and becoming fully awake. It’s a time when the mind has not yet been fully engaged, almost like a day-dreaming state. The level of brain wave activity here is just above the level of the unconscious and it allows you to experience a high degree of visual imagery, intense feeling and sometimes even mystical experiences.
Q: What does the Basic Introductory Course on Shamanism involve?
A: During the Introductory Course on Shamanism, you are taught how to journey shamanically, which is facilitated by drumming and other support techniques, that enables you to explore the hidden universe - normally only accessed through deep meditation, dreaming or through mythology.
Particular emphasis is placed on experiencing the shamanic journey, and to the development of a strong connections with your Spirit Guides, Teachers and Helpers in non-ordinary reality. The sharing of journeys in the circle afterwards with other participants helps us to understand the journeys (many are metaphorical) and to recognize the different ways that Spirit relates to us. We also spend time exploring the ethics of working shamanically, and introduced to how shamanic practice can be applied in contemporary daily life to heal ourselves, others and Planet Earth.
Q: What would I need to bring with me to a course?
A: Bring the following items:
-
A notepad and a pen (to record your journeys)
-
Blanket and cushion
-
A drum or a rattle
-
Scarf or a bandana (to cover your eyes – stops distraction)
-
Loose warm clothing
